What is the difference between Quickbooks Intuit and Acad? I am looking to purchase 2008 Pro for my small business. The Acad seems to be less than the Intuit. Are they just the brand name?
Jennifer replies:
I assume you are referring to the academic version of QuickBooks. As far as I know it is identical to the regular version. Reference this link (copy & paste into your browser):

If you are operating a “for profit” business, please do not buy the academic version. It’s specifically marketed for accounting students and is not intented for businesses. I understand the temptation, but you will sleep better at night if you just get the regular version. It’s only $100 more, and that’s if you pay regular retail. It’s often on sale at office supply stores for much less.
If $100 extra seems like a lot for accounting software, then you may want to rethink your business plan. $100 extra as a long term business expense is nothing.
It’s a good question and I’m glad you asked, because I know many others feel the same temptation. So thanks.
